I was thinking the same thing. Insurance for the motorcycle would still be a lot cheaper than the SUV, plus you save a lot of gas. Though it may be riskier riding a bike, the choice is yours. I know a couple of people that switched from a car to a bike to save gas. IMO, it’s a great idea.

no…they arent worth the risk…you get hit in a suv, you might have a headache…you get hit on a bike, you may not have a head left. trade the suv in on a car if you wanna save money on gas.

I was a rider for years and then got off the bikes for many years. Lately I had been thinking of getting another, but when we started getting raped every day by the oil companies I made my mind up. I bought a 2008 Honda Shadow 750. I have riden it for a month now and have used less than a quarter of what my Grand Cherokee uses. I have been places that were limited because of the gas consumption of the Jeep, and had a lot of enjoyment. All things considered? Yes it is worth a look at buying one! BTW, the 750 Shadow gets 58 mpg and the Cherokee gets 17.6!

bikes get about 40 or so miles per tank some better and some not….and really anything can and doe get better than suv’s

if you get rid of the suv yes.otherwise you are still paying for the suv and its insurance. you would have to ride the bike exclusivley in order for it to be practical

In a word, no. You’re always gonna need to move something besides your body…furniture, a new mattress, move to a new apt and load the car with junk, whatever.
Many cars, esp the hybrids get as good or better, and provide a roof and a/c, and room for the kids.
Ride because you enjoy it.
Actually i’m restoring my Virago 1100, and will ride it 90% of the time….but i’m keeping the Ford Explorer, it’s paid for and really handy sometimes.

True enough you need the four wheeler unless you like riding in freezing rain at times. I have a SUV, a pickup truck, a Toyota Camery and just bought another suv. A KIA Sorento. My wife drives whatever she feels like and my daughter uses either HER car (which I also bought) or uses my wife’s VW Beetle. It also gets good mileage. My suv is used to trailer my bike if needed, The KIA is my wife’s and is used for long trips such as vacation, the Camery is used in my wife’s work and my bike is my mode of transportation.

Why not switch from an suv to a smaller car. like a smart car or mini cooper. much safer-

I own a 1966 Mustang Convertible that only gets driven to church (1 tank/year), a 4×4 SUV that gets 22mpg, a minivan that gets 20mpg, a Honda Trail 90 for running around the campsites and local neighborhoods (100+ mpg), and my trusty old Honda XR350 dirtbike. I have made it street legal, so when I’m done hitting the trails, I take it to work. I just used it Tuesday for 2.5 hours in the hills/trails, and have taken it to work twice this week (30 miles roundtrip). It still has half a tank left!

I’ll agree, its nice to have options, but nothing beats a good trailbike for stress relief (either at work, or at the pumps!).
