Would abolishing traffic lights help save gas?
If people didn’t have to constantly stop at traffic lights, they would keep a more consistent speed, and use less gas overall.

No, If you really want to know then go to a third world country where if they have traffic laws they do not follow them. I have been to places in Africa like this. It is ok unless you are in a big city then it is crazy. There was a stretch of road (about a mile) where the locals told us that someone died everyday because of accidents of getting hit by cars. There was tons of stop and go traffic and jams would last up to half a day. Several people in our group figured out the gas milage was not better and sometimes worse than what we are use the US.
Yes. That is why you get better “highway miles”…less stop & go.
Thumbs down? I didn’t realize this question meant aggressive and careless driving. I thought it was just a question about gas mileage. But my answer is CORRECT!!!
Yes, it would. But there would be chaos in the streets and death on roads every 2 seconds.
If there were no traffic lights to regulate traffic, I’d expect you would still sit idling in traffic, because there would be far more accidents!
…no stop and go means better mpg…but where i live they are putting new ones up almost dally
Yes, because the resulting hundreds of thousands of fiery crashes would greatly reduce the number of vehicles on the road, and the drivers would die too so there’d be fewer drivers, so in the long term, we would use less fuel.
Yes it would help save gas. The problem with that is there are not enough life flight helicopters, ambulances, body bags, and police to deal with all the collisions that will take place because there was no traffic light.
Ha ha ha. Yes, it would save lots of gas. Traffic in the cities would soon come to a standstill and everyone would shut off their engines. That would save a tremendous amount of gas. But—our economy would soon go in the tank, too, so it may not be worth the pain.
Yes that constant speed would be Zero, would be absolute chaos and only an undertaker would want the abolition of traffic lights
They’d replace them with 4-way stops so that would cost you more gas.
