Comments on will throwing your car into neutral constantly while driving save gas?
not enough to count/unless its down hill to the house from everywhere
People ask this daily.
You will NEVER notice the difference.
And in the meantime, you’re just going to put wear and tear on the transmission that it doesn’t need.
Nevermind looking ridiculous as you manually shift an auto.
no its probly harder on fuel, what do you do after your coasting is done ? step on it.
no it will not. idleing uses more gas than runnung is high gear. besides it is dangerous. if you neede to excelerate quickly you might lose that split second you need to get out of the way of a crash.
and whe you run in nutral then put the car in gera it takes fuel to raise the engine speed to match the actual speed the car is travling. so it is more econ. to leave it in gear and just drive alittle slower . and it is more safe.
If you’re car is an automatic, I’d advise against doing that. With a manual transmission it’s no problem. In fact, (for interests sake) a lot of the older vehicles (particularly in Britain) were actually fitted with a freewheeling device that did exactly that) disengage the engine from the transmission whereby you would coast for quite a way before you’d have to re-engage the engine to the transmission.
No, it won’t. All neutral does is disengage the gears in your transmission, meaning that the engine is decoupled from your car’s drive wheels. Also, if your car has a manual transmission, you can wear out your clutch.
that’s how the pros do it in the Mileage runs..actually they just push in the clutch.. they call it Hypermileing and it’s now listed in Wikipedia… the secret is to keep your momentum up..

It will not help your gas mileage. It will increase the wear and tear on your transmission if you do this. Plus, it will actually cost you more because it will take more gas. Everytime you switch back into drive, it will take more gas to get back up to speed so the engine can catch up with the speed the car is actually travelling before continuing to accelerate beyond that speed. It is also unsafe, especially if you have to speed up in a hurry to avoid an accident or otherwise. I wouldn’t even try this unless you are out of gas and going downhill.
