As high as possible yes, but don’t lug (strain) the engine. You don’t want to be at so low an rpm that the car is struggling. If it’s an automatic, let it choose the gears, just keep a light foot on the throttle at all times. If it a manual transmission, the engine size ( in general) will determine the best RPM range to shift and drive the car.
Hook up a vacuum gauge to the intake manifold mount this in side the car were you can see it as you drive try to maintain the highest vac that you can this will give you the best m.p.g
Driving in the highest gear ( without lugging the engine ) and accelerating gently are the best ways of increasing your fuel economy.
my ex used to go fast then take out of gear to save on petrol, its dangerous though as you less control over your car. I wouldnt recommend it
