Will a 1991 Saab Turbo 3000 still save gas?

7

I’m sure in its day this car would have a lot of bang for the buck, but after 17 years will it still be a gas saver?
Will it get anywhere near 30miles/gallon
can the turbo be turned off?

Only if it’s been well maintained and it depends on what you’re comparing it to.

A hybrid will :P

Turbo’s never ‘save’ gas if you put your foot in it. Keep it tuned up and running properly. As for ‘saving gas’ what gives you the idea that a 1991 Saab Turbo 3000, or ANY car for that matter, saves gas. Cars USE gas.

Some more than others.

Look at the mileage you get with your driving habits. If you want to do better, get a newer car.

If it’s in good shape, you can get decent mileage….if you keep your foot out of it…….

Yeah, as long as you keep it tuned up. spark plugs, air filter, oil, PCV valve, you should be fine. Just because a car is older, doesn’t mean that it is automatically going to get bad gas mileage… Those are good cars.

you can turn the turbo off.unplug the boost pressure control valve.you eill be left with about an 8.0:1 compression restricted intake slug.
A co-worker has one.5 speed turbo and gets 30 mpg on the highway. Were saab techs,so as you can imagine its in good shape.

Don’t see why not. What I would do is to do a complete tune-up, replace the cat, you can get an universal one installed for about $180 and clean the fuel system. All these changes will greatly improve your gas mileage and keep the car running for a long time. The reason I say to change the cat is because since it’s a 91′ I’m sure it’s almost clogged. That’s very dangerous specially in hot weather. Mine almost caught fire because of that.
