Most larger cities have public transportation, and many cities are looking at alternative fuel public transportation vehicles and hybrids.
The difference between North America and Europe is that cities in the United States are more spread out, and people tend to drive further for work/school. This makes people want personal vehicles over public transportation.
There are also many areas that have a population of 40,000 – 100,000 that don’t have public transportation due to lack of funding, lack of interest, or poor location in relation to other larger cities. Such as the case with Fenton, Michigan, USA or Brighton, Michigan, USA
New York City is one of the few cities in the US that is densely populated enough for public transit to be profitable. Private companies don’t start their own bus services in other cities because there aren’t enough people using the bus to make money.
