why does a stick shift save gas?

people always say that I have a stick shift it definetly saves gas

of course the last car i had was a v6 and this one is a 4 cylinder

An automatic transmission uses slightly more fuel because there are a lot of gear-to-gear connections in an automatic transmission. Every one of those connections has a little bit of friction involved in it, which means that you’re losing energy (and thus needing gas) to overcome that friction cost.

There are also several clutches in an auto, as opposed to only one in a stickshift.

u can drop the rpm so lower rpm less gas u burn

Because, if you drive a stick shift correctly, you can control the RPM’s where you shift to the next gear.
Shifting at about 3000-3500 RPM will maximize your fuel efficiency and is best for your engine.

Automatics typically shift at about 4,000 RPM, or higher, depending on the car. The faster you go in lower gears, the more fuel you use. This is why City highway EPA’s differ more than highway.

The reason a standard transmission saves gas is because its not shifting up down up down the constant shifting with an automatic will effect your fuel mileage

because its more direct drive ,and no t-converter to cause slipage.less energy to turn it

Simple easy answer,The input into the transmission and the out put to the rear axle. Could go into a lot more detail but the result at the end would be the input of 1 rpm into the standard transmission produces a higher output rpm than an automatic. The result is lower rpms when going at road speed. Lower rpms mean less fuel used.

THERE ARE A FEW FACTORS INVOLVED ONE AN AUTOMATIC USES HYDRAULIC PRESSURE IN THE TRANSMISSION WHICH RESULTS IN EXTRA FUEL USE BUT THE BIGGEST FACTOR IS THE AMOUNT OF GEARS IN THE TRANSMISSION MOST AUTOMATICS ARE A 4 SPEED OVERDRIVE WHERE MANUALS ARE 5 SPEEDS OR 6 SPEEDS EXTRA GEARS LOWER THE RPMS WHILE DRIVING AND THAT’S WHERE THE GAS SAVINGS COME FROM

Standard transmission is direct, automatic isn’t quite direct, you accelerate standard doesn’t slip or give, but automatic gives or downshifts.

Bla blah blah. A stick shift is more efficient. But is becoming less so. Most of the hp loss (ineffeciency) is due to fluid friction in the tourque converter. Most modern automatics have an electric locking clutch that bypasses the converter at cruising speed. Thats why they aren’t as bad as they used to be. You will notice that manual transmissions don’t have coolant lines going to the radiator. That is because they don’t generate enough heat to need them. The heat that autos make is wasted energy that could be put to the wheels. Fluid friction, fluid friction, fluid friction, Woooo wooooooo. Fluid friction,………
