Why do people drive 70 and 80 mph when it’s been proven that 60 mph saves gas and the inviroment?

I drive no faster than 60 99% of the time. I get very good gas mileage as a result. Also why do people drive at high speed up to a stoplight then jam on their brakes. Coasting to the stoplight not only saves brake linings but also gas. And if you don’t have to come to a dead stop and keep your car rolling you save ever more gas. Why are people much a ‘hurry up and wait’ mode?

people are in a rush, or just like the rush of speed. its fun, even though gas is a Bee with an Itch right now. But i think if people want to go fast, and save lives, they should go fast on the race tracks and drag strips. thats my opinion. i guess its okay to go 70 or 80 on the highway or interstate, but remember that all cars are different in the way they consume fuel. Fuel injectors, direct port injection, the amount of fuel that is brought into the cylinder, and those turboed and supercharged cars with the fuel return system consume amounts of fuel at different rates. it all depends on the car, and the enviorment they are in.

Because they want to spend as little time as possible “getting there” and as much time “there” or “back from there.”

I’ve been wondering where every Prius I see on the Interstate is going at least 70 MPH, or more than 5 MPH over the speed limit. You would think someone driving a Prius would be someone who liked saving energy…

jimporsche86 @ 1:55 am #

I guess they want to get there 15 seconds faster…

It’s a sign of who’s got money, and the ones that don’t.

I have heard that too..and I was applying it to mysefl, but I couldn’t find any different by driving at 60mph or 70mph, more than that …YES it consume a lot more..I have been late to class…driving at 100mph for like 5 mins..and I can see the arrow going down lol…..Wind could be also a great issue.
