Why do people continue to drive so fast with these high gas prices when it saves fuel to drive slower?

Ignorance.

wait a minute then why is mpg higher on the highway i mean i dont punch the gas but still i go fast and use cruise control

cuz driving slow is boring. real people don’t complain about the price of gas. they just accept it. gas was always expensive, now its just more expensive.

I’ve got places to go and people to see, and I can’t be economically sane when I’m late.

Drive like hell (You’ll get there quicker!)

because granma/grampa shouldnt be doing 45 in the fast lane, because i have places to go, and driving slow doesnt actually save that much gas if your car isn’t maintained properly (how many of you really check youre tire pressures, air/fuel filters tune-up specs, ETC.)

we are historically a rebellious country, founded on the principle of giving “the man” (e.g. Britain) the finger. we do WHAT we want, HOW we want, and whoever tells us otherwise gets the smack down. another staple of the USA is capitalism, which has inundated us with technology and commercialism and quite a lot of wealth. even the poorest of us want/need/have to have our xboxes, our plasma-screens, our big SUVs. these items are not exactly close by at the mom and pop store! america is also very spread out.

so what we have in america are conservatives who do not really conserve, so-called “old-fashioned” individuals who are insane over the latest new-fangled hi-tech toys, and people so addicted to a fast pace that they go 90 in the mostly-empty Ford Expeditions from mcdonalds (which makes them fat) to the gym, just to get the workout they could have gotten by riding their frikkin bike to work!

short answer? we’re spoiled and irresponsible
