Dan…so, you communist, you think that the government should decide how much you can drive by placing costs higher and higher. Go live in a communist country. The USA is a FREE COUNTRY, and the role of government is not to determine how much you drive. The role of the federal government is NOT to develop alternate fuels. If left to the private sector, it will be more efficient and faster.

Because Americans are too stubborn to do the right thing and reduce their fuel use on their own.
Raising the gas tax would keep a significant portion of the population from driving their cars and would give the government a larger tax base to promote alternative forms of energy and more public transportation.
At least, that’s one argument.
Face it, gas prices are going up and they aren’t going to go back to where they were even a year ago. Simply drilling for more oil is a short term solution and will not solve the problem, only postpone the solution.
All of the solutions are going to be expensive, but you need to start somewhere and those solutions have to be paid for. In our society, that means you and me pay for it. Hopefully to reduce our overall energy prices in the future.

That and the fact they don’t want you to have the freedom to use gasoline.

Besides, higher gas prices means that you will have less money and more of a chance to be dependent on government welfare.

The vast majority of liberals live in big cities, therefore they have access to mass transit. They will not be affected as much as we, living in the country, that have to drive 5 miles or more just to get groceries. I see these taxes as more, city against country. Come on y’all lets have a new “city against country” fight, instead con against lib …lol.

Obama, Gore, Pelosi and Reid have the same goal. They want gas to be $8 per gallon by 2010.

if you came up with a car that ran on air they would find way to tax that! i see mileage taxes coming soon, we are using less gas gonna have to make up for it somehow.

A tax on “gas” is a tax on gas, be it .2% or 50% – a State sets a rate, the Oil People set the price.
