why do car makers put in speeds that you can make on conventional roads?
what i mean is why do car makers allow anything beyond 60 mph/ 100 kph for a car to go up to when you’re not supposed to go beyond those speeds on conventional highways and roads? it makes no sense.
granted i understand the need for car makers to showcase their improving technologies (ie who can make a car that do 60 in however few seconds), but seriously it seems like they are wasting resources.
instead “certain” car makers could focus their resources on fuel efficiency, car safety, etc. not to mention saving thousands of lives on the road.
to the last poster,
by your logic we should be allowed to have any speed (maybe 200 mph and up) we want in our cars.
liberty is hardly unlimited, your liberty extends so far allowing you to do what you want without harming or intruding on others’ liberties.

Comments on why do car makers put in speeds that you can make on conventional roads?
this is done so police departments have a method of funding themselves via speeding tickets.
Just for knowledge of people, but for a straight forward answer, difficult one.
I agree with you! Your last sentence: “instead certain car makers could focus their resources on fuel efficiency, car safety, etc. not to mention saving thousands of lives on the road”, hit the nail on the head!
Actually it does make sense. While we all should obey the posted speed limits, there are times when for accident avoidance we may need to make an evasive maneuver that involves the need for rapid acceleration and speed.
Another thing to consider is consumer demand. While your thinking has merit, it is not in keeping with consumer demand. Manufacturers will make what people want to buy.
Regional driving customs also need to be considered. if you try to just drive at the speed limit on the freeways of southern California, you are holding up traffic and are likely creating a hazard.
you and the other liberals/dems want a nanny nation to run all aspects of life…what cars to own what food is permited..what to think….forget it.
