Why did Ford put a automatic transmission in the 2008 Taurus X??
In the 2005-2007 Ford Freestyles there was only a CVT transmission offered, now I see that in the 2008 Taurus X, which is basically the same vehicle, there is only an automatic? Where there problems with the CVT? It seemed like such a great fuel-saving option. What gives?

They’re sticking with tradition.Other than the Taurus SHO all had automatics in them.
It made horrible use of the engines powerband, and made the car feel unresponsive and underpowered. That was a chief complaint of the Freestyle. Ford fixed that by going to a conventual transmission, and also by increasing engine size in the Taurus X.
Potential ford buyers are not intelligent enough to learn how to operate a stick shift which fact transforms into no demand for manual transmissions in ford “products”.
slimming down choices makes it easier to produce the engines and transmissions to bolt them together and have them ready for production (less storage for the options etc…)
That and from what I heard, there was too many issues with the CVTs with Americans not knowing how to really drive a CVT and destroying them behind the 3.0 ….
And Americans love their automatics, only vehicles that have kept manuals are ones that people typically buy manuals in (trucks,Mustangs, and Focus cars)
The CVT costs too much to build. Just the hardening of the parts of the ZF CVT costs more than building a whole 6 speed trans axle
