which would you prefer and why: a carbed or a fuel injected LT1 in a 1987 Firebird thats set up for FI?

I have a 1987 Firebird as a project car. I’m saving my pennies to buy an LT1 engine. Now of course I would be buying a fuel injected LT1 but I have been told that I would be better off converting it to a carbed engine. I’m not putting this in myself I’m having a professional do it.

What are some major factors that would lead me to believe on way or another?

Would I get the same HP?

How much different would gas mileage be? (It’s a sports car so I’m not expecting 28 MPH. I just want to know)

I love Carbs!!! Unfortunately as you know anything post 1987 is fuel injected. It is said to give better fuel economy. It makes sense that it would but you can’t work on it. That is why I like carbs much better.Since this is a project car I would use a carb. Maybe a 650 Holley or so depending on what you are looking for and the set up or the engine. Being better off is not really accurate with a carb. Less trouble would be with fuel injection as the gas is delivered perfecly each time with no float level or air/fuel mixture issues. It is all done by computer.

Depends if you love working on your car, go with a carb. If you want the car to be virtually maintenance free go with the FI. Fuel injection will give you more HP across the entire RPM range & better driveability. A huge carb might give you higher red line horsepower, but the car will not be very nice to drive on the street.
