Which saves more fuel, faster or slower?

11

I want to ask, when I travel by motorbike, which saves more fuel, slower or faster. And why?
Thanks a lot. :D

just consistency.

I think faster because doesn’t it still burn fuel if your not moving, just not as fast?

Go slower and steady.

if you dont need to hit the brakes often, faster will save more fuel. however going top speed will not. In stop and go traffic, slower will save more.

i don’t know for motorbike but for car i believe that faster up until around 55 mph because after that the air resistance decreases efficiency.

I don’t know much about engines and fuel consumption, but doesn’t it have to do with RPMs, as opposed to travel speed? The higher the engine revs, the more it burns? So, shifting to higher gears as soon as possible is what’s important? Shifting down as late as possible would also save on gas?

eyeluvco brought up a good point to consider… Wind resistance. I guess RPMs have nothing to do with that.

air resistance cubes as your speed doubles. so slow but even more important is steady, with gradual acceleration and coasting for a while before braking.

slower= lower rpms and smaller amout of friction. But if you have a motor bike then dont worry about it get behind a semitruck and there will be no friction.

I think the only thing that matters is that you drive at the same speed as much as possible without constantly decelerating and accelerating.

Have fun! Mistress Dolly

full fairing will give you better mileage.

steady throttle.

scangauge does not lie faster (but keep the rpm down)
