Slow speed in high gear.
The lower gears turn the engine at a higher speed, good acceleration terrible mileage. Typical gear ratio is 2.5: 1, 2.5 engine revolutions to 1 drivesdhaft
High gears uturn the engine slower 1:1. 1 engine rev to 1 driveshaft,
Weaker acceleration but better mileage.
If the engine shakes or bucks go down 1 gear.
