Which carb would save fuel but have power?

3

I have a rebuilt 302 1982 ford engine. It has a 4barrel holly carb, I was wondering what carb could I use without cutting ponies? Also what engine oil weight should I use, I was told straight 30HD but isn’t that too heavy? The engine only has 5000miles on it.

the 30 weight oil is both a bit thick and can be a reason for your poor fuel economy if you are using it. i would use 1030 or 1040. at 5000 miles, the 1030 is a better choice. with out knowing the size or cfm of the carb, i can not say if it is part of the problem.

More barrels, more fuel, more power, but less fuel economy.
Less barrels, less fuel, less power, but more fuel economy.

You can have one or another not both. “You can have this, or you can have that.”

I would recommend and Edelbrock 1405 for manual choke or an Edelbrock 1406 for electric choke. They are both 600 CFM. Which means decent power, better fuel mileage. I would recommend 5W30 for better mileage as well. HD 30 is a great break in oil, but not for regular use. Alot of people think the HD means Heavy Duty, but it actually means high detergent. Which can gum up an engine over time.
