Practially none.
You also have to be mindful to put the car back into drive, because if you accelerate in neutral, and free rev the motor, the thimblefull you saved will be lost.
not really
Im not a mechanic but i guess the answer is no. observe the RPM when its in D position and in N position. for my car its even so it doesnt matter. if u want to save on gas, follow your car preventive maintenance ( air filter, tire pressure, etc )specs. If your stepping on your accelerator like crazy, better think of it. think there’s a precious egg under it. another is anticipate red lights, when going downhill remove foot from pedal, and of course always follow the required driving speed.
Yes, but is almost insignificant… But if you feel that is good enough for you to keep saving gas well thats just some extra tiny help. When the car is at halt on drive the engine does a little extra work because is maintaining the revs at around 750 (which is standard or close to in almost any road car, excepting hi revs cars) with some contrary force (in this case the brakes). The best thing you can do to save gas is to turn on the a/c with your windows closed when over 35MPH and using the windows below that speed. Also keeping a stable speed at all times will save you more than you’ll imagine. Try accelerating slow and smooth and drive a 4 cylinder engine instead of the V6 or V8.
There is no consumption difference. Leave it in drive, there will be less wear and tear on the drivetrain.
Your boyfriend should know that…
