Drive 55 and don’t drive with your tailgate down when you pump gas avoid getting air in the tank by pumping gas when it isn’t jam packed with people and don’t pull the trigger full forced… Put an HHo system on it and run your car on water…
keep yer RPMs between 2000 and 3000
Check your tire pressure. Underinflated tires waste a lot of gas.
Drive at or 5 miles below the posted limit will save a lot of gas too.
use a 5th gear or OD
I would say the lower the better- probably 60 mph is good. try putting the truck in cruise control- I have heard from so many people this will save you alot of gas. make sure you aren’t hauling anything in your bed either- extra weight just means extra gas. Also I am sure your engine has a large capacity so dont floor it just to get on the highway- slowly work your speed up!
slow down (50-60 as appropriate) and avoid erratic speeding up and slowing down. And tests have shown that tailgate down doesn’t improve MPG of a pickup truck. See link provided.
Make sure your air pressure in your tires is correct. Use your cruise control if you have it. Coast instead of breaking when possible. Lower your cruising speed. Keep engine rpm as low as possible. accelerate slowly to speed. slow and steady wins the race.
set your cruise on 55 mph, make sure your tire pressure is correct, take any extra weight out of the bed, and if you have a bed cover (tonneau cover, or hard cover) keep it closed that helps reduce wind drag.
On mine:
75-80: 16-17
70 17-19
65 18-20
60 19-21
Those are average numbers for my truck. I have had times when I’ve gotten 22-24 runnin 70 (had good tail-wind that day). I haven’t run 55 consistantly for results (don’t have THAT much spare time) but I would bet money that economy would increase.
The slower you go, the better it can get. In my opinion you get the best economy runnin slightly above an idle in the tallest gear your truck has. In my case, my truck’s torque convertor locks at 40mph in overdrive (with a light foot and a light load) so runnin about 40-50 would get me the best fuel economy. Go under 40 and my TC unlocks, so there is slippage in the tranny and that is fuel wasted. This will vary from vehicle to vehicle, axle ratios, tranny ratios, and shift parameters.
