What should be done with all the SUVs that people will not be willing to drive due to gas prices?

Gas is very high but we were warned to conserve before now and many didn’t listen and bought the SUVs anyway.
Many of those people buying the SUV’s were using them as their were meant to be used. As an off road vehichle. They mostly bought them for status. A family as a rule, doesn’t really need one of those monsters to haul your 2.5 kids around.

Probably sold to used car dealerships when gas prices hit $10 per gallon. That won’t be for a few years though.. Until then, we’ll still have to bear the sight of ugly Hummers on the road.

I’m starting to see some Smartcars here and there.. I don’t like them, but it’s interesting to see what people will do to pay less to commute.

its their problem :-) good luck to em trying to sell those fuel-guzzling monsters… haha

i guess suv’s will eventually die out and be compacted in scrap metal yards just like all other cars that are no longer used.

or…the person who buys the suv knows in advance that they can afford the gasoline. gas is a very small price to pay for some people who are wealthy

Good question may be they can be sent back to the factory and get recycled in some way, or it would be cool if people could pay some price and make those SUV’s hybrid, that would help.

Hopefully they can be broken down and recycled into parts that can be used to create eco-friendly cars. The government should pay people to trade in their old SUV’s and purchase a newer hybrid car.

Honestly I feel bad for those who bought SUV’s because of their family convience.

Sorry to pop your bubble, but people are still driving their SUV. In fact people are still buying SUV – and that is the problem, people are not conserving enough.

Good Luck..

We are asking “what will happen” questions. Like what will happen if gas gets to $15 a gallon? We need to all be letting our congressmen know we are no longer going to put up with refusing to drill for our own resources….Did you know they are
allowing China to drill off our shores, but won’t let us?

It is criminal what our Congress jointly has done in the last 30 years. We were telling them then to drill…because we have plenty of oil…don’t believe the “limits” they are saying. And we are more important than any wild animal…when are we going to make them listen, or vote them out!

They try to “blame” everyone else…when it is our own Congress that is limiting the supply, which is keeping the prices high. Maybe they all have stocks in the oil companies….because the companies can only drill if they are allowed to!

Get mad…and get involved…and call you Congressmen!

I got rid of my two seater sports car for an SUV six months ago. I like the SUV so much better. There is way more interior room and I don’t have to worry about getting stuck in the snow. However $100 to fill this sucker is really making me sick.

If they made a vehicle that was cheap enough (and environmentally friendly) that my 6′ 6″ husband could fit in comfortably, along with the rest of the family, I would be more than happy to buy it. However, from what I understand, these new hybrid vehicles need to have the batteries replaced after about 6 years at a cost of over $3,000 which, are treated as a biohazards upon removal and they are still researching what to do with the waste. How is that good for the environment?

Also, there are major problems with these vehicles in accidents. If you have have to be extracted (cut from the vehicle) you can endanger the life of the rescue workers. This is a new problem for the fireman (my husband is one).

The engines should be taken out and melted down for use in new diesel engines. The remaining SUVs should be melted down together and recycled.
