What is the best fuel efficient small car for a college student?
I am a college student looking to spend as little as possible on gas. Have money saved up and parents will help a little with down payment so price isnt TO big of an issue but definitely something less than $18,000. Daily Commute is 10 minutes and i sometimes ride my bike, but take longer trips on the weekend to L.A which is about 30 mintues to an hour away. If you have a small fuel efficient car and had a good or bad experience let me know! thank you!

Honda accora, toyota corolla or camry,.
When you say fuel efficient and small I have to say a mini cooper! they definately aren’t under 18,000 but are very cheep on gas. Maybe if you got a used one it will be under 18,000. I’m almost 16 and I have a 2006 mini cooper s. It’s super great on gas, i love it.
yaris ts about 11g’s 35mpg or more
Honda Civic
Mazda 3
Toyota Corolla
Hyundai Elantra
Kia Spectra
Used Mini Cooper
Nissan Sentra
Mitsubishi Lancer
Chevy Cobalt
VW Rabbit or Jetta or Beetle.
Some really great vehicles that I would recommend would be:
-Ford Focus
I think the newer one is pretty ugly, but it has great reliability and economy, fun to drive, zippy and great on gas. Plenty of space for friends, and a little bit of junk in the trunk.
-Nissan Versa, Sentra
Great cars, lots of space despite being very small. It’s well built and so far very reliable, is great on fuel economy, and although I can’t say it’s as fun or as large as the Focus, it’s a great car and even more economical. The Sentra is a little larger and a little worse on gas, but more fun to drive and a bit better looking.
-Ford Fusion
A little bigger than the others, but still great fuel economy and reliability.
-Toyota Yaris/Scion XB/Scion XD
Smaller than most of the others, but pretty reliable and economical, better on your pocket.
Some vehicles I would avoid are Kia’s, Hyundai’s, the recent Chryslers (Sebring, Avenger, Nitro), and the Chevrolet Aveo, due to reliability concerns. Good luck!
I use to own a Chevy Aveo and I cannot believe how much gas lasted me. To fill up was $30, last year obviously it would be more now because of gas prices. Perhaps $40
