What is more fuel efficient, Manual or Automatic cars? The truth.?
Now iv always head from a lot of people that Manual is more fuel efficient but isn’t that theory outdated? because automatic cars these days will auto shift gear to gear never making you go above 2k rpm’s when driving normally, as where in a manual car most people shift anywhere from 2-4 rpm’s normally, so isn’t automatic really better at saving fuel?

In theory, manual. There is less power lost throughout the drivetrain, so the entire vehicle is more efficient.
In reality, automatic most of the time. I drive manuals way more aggressively than automatics, so fuel economy suffers. I also don’t shift near as often as a modern automatic would. I get lazy and keep it in first during traffic, etc.
Back in the day when autos had 1-2 fewer gears and didn’t have locking torque converters, there was a definite disadvantage.
If operated properly Manual transmissions are still a bit more efficient because they have clutch rather than a torque converter, which slip more. Also automatics have hydraulic pumps which use some energy. but you’re partly right because the gap has narrowed a lot due to technology
today pretty even, normal driving may get a couple of MPG. with manual trans. Mainly because auto trans heavier.
I thought manual would be more efficient, so I bought one and the clutch plate broke and the dealer said it wasn’t covered under the warranty.
The new cars with Multi gear trannies and lock up converters will give the average driver better mileage.;
