What is a really good car that saves gas besides hybrids?

7

I am wanting to buy a new car around 20,000, I have thought about a Honda Civic and a Toyota Carolla, which is better? and are there any other cars that are similar that are good cars. I have been told both of these are really good cars.

I just bought a Corolla, and love it (it’s a 2009). One of the cool things is that it tells me how many miles per gallon I’m getting at the moment. Example-I’m going down hill, without using gas, and my mpg’s go up, but accelerating up a hill, mileage goes down. I makes you see how fast starts and stops really effects your gas. We are getting close to 40mpg right now, which is really good. I’ve also heard good things about the Civic, but I feel more familiar with Toyota’s, and the dealer ship is not even a hundred yards from my house, so I went there.

The Mazda 3, Honda Fit and Hyundai Elantra are also good options (in addition to the Civic and the Corolla).

The Elantra SE got great reviews from Consumer Reports and you can get a fully loaded one for under $17K.

Here are two other good options:
1) Saturn Astra
2) Mazda3

The Saturn Astra is new to the US this year, in Europe it is badged as the Opel Astra, Europe’s best selling car of 2006. It has Asian Build Quality and Reliability, Euro Handling, and an American Price.

This one most likely would cost around $19,500.

The Mazda3 is one of the most underrated cars in the entire automotive segment. It has better build quality and fit and finish than the Honda Civic, it is by far the sportiest of the group, and has a pricetag that rivals most in the segment.

Or, I will not go into detail, you could check out the Mitsubishi Lancer. It is by far the most agressive styled of the small car segment.
