Gas is far too pricey, especially on military pay. So, I’ve done research on how to save gas while driving, but are there any tips exclusively for a manual transmission?
The best things to do are to
accelerate gently,
keep your top speed under control,
shift to a higher gear early,
anticipate when you’ll be stopping and coast at least part of the way – don’t give it gas right up to the point you put on the break
combine stops and errands into one longer trip, rather than several short trips.
Don’t use the engine for braking – use the brakes. Yeah, they wear faster that way, but they should still last a long time. And it’s a lot easier and cheaper to change brakes than it is a clutch.
Have heavier springs put on the back of your truck.
Where the box is up and the hood is slanted down.
Then when your driving. “Your going all down hill.”
But if you believe this! I got swamp land in florida. <}:-})
Hey, you probably know as much as I do. But my suggestions are:
1. The first answer is the best and will keep you in shape. I know ’cause I lived in another country when I was younger.
2. Up shift the transmission as soon as you can keep your truck from lugging in the next gear.
3. When you are going to stop, press the clutch and take truck out of gear, then release clutch and coast to stop.
4. When sitting at a stop light, don’t move until the light turns green and traffic in front of you is moving. People with auto trannys will get off the brake and creep up during a stoplight. It makes no sense ’cause the light’s still red and traffic ain’t moving.
5 Make sure that your truck is tuned up, lubricated, and keep check on your tire pressure.
That’s the best advice I have for you. Good luck!
When approching Redlights, stop signs etc put in neutral. when driving down the street if you have enough speed just put it neutral. when you stoped facing up hill pull your ebreak and slowly let off the ebreak and clutch while slowly giving it gas.
Leave the transmission in gear while you coast to a stop. Newer fuel injected motors know when they ned gas and when they don’t. If you push the clutch in, the motor needs gas to keep running. If you leave it in gear, the transmission will keep the motor turning.
Short-shift. Try not to stay in any one gear longer than neccessary. Shift between 2 and 3 thousand rpm. This will also mean slower accelleration, but you’re trying to save gas, right?
Shift in low RPM, like between 2,000 – 3,000. Don’t press the pedal to the floor when you get a green light or when entering a highway. Instead, slowly press the accelerator.
Ditch the drive-thru! One test in Toronto found that you can get a fast-food breakfast faster and burn less gas in your car if you park and go into the restaurant. Considering how much idling cars do in drive-thru lanes, this isn’t surprising.

dont drive
Keep the RPM low

Don’t drive it, walk everywhere
get rid of your truck.
No, I have manual, you can’t save if your foot is on the pedal..
Shift in low RPM, like between 2,000 – 3,000. Don’t press the pedal to the floor when you get a green light or when entering a highway. Instead, slowly press the accelerator.
short shift, coast in neutral, don’t downshift to slow down
look on google
Get someone to push whilst you steer?
