Consider carpooling. Many cities make it even easier by matching up commuters.

A Grand AM “By The Way”? Well, I’d say this is a short list or possible ways to save gasoline:
1. Make your rounds shopping in one continuous trip. Not one store one day and the other store the next. The cars engine stays warm and runs in the closed loop mode so the computer is running the engine and this makes it run more efficiently.
2. Experiment with various grades of gasoline. If you get a few more miles per gallon with 92 Octane then use this for your daily driving. Use the lower octane for long trips or highway driving when you are burning up several gallons per hour and where you typically get more miles per gallon than around town driving. You can balance cost against your budgeted gallons or dollars spent per month average. Might go higher octane all the time or use lower octane all of the time if there’s little to no difference in your car.
3. Don’t start the engine with the A/C engaged or run the A/C if you can just use the flow through ventilation or roll the window down.
4. Don’t leave accessories turned on that you are not using. Radio, A/C, seat warmers, rear window defroster, mirror defrosters, and so on as the load on the alternator puts a load on the engine and burns gas.
5. Use a full synthetic oil. Free horsepower boost of up to 5 HP and it makes the engine wear out slower. Synthtics don;t brek down as fast as conventional oils and you can change it at the recommneded interval listed in the owners manual which is probably between 5K-7K miles rathert than 3K miles. Saves gas and money on oil changes and wear and tear on the engine.
6. Have your air filter changed every year or two. +/- 7,500-25K miles. At least check it every year.
7. Use a synthetic transmission fluid and have your tranny serviced every two years or 25K miles. Just doing the tranny service every two years is a good standard even with just conventional tranny fluid. Reduces wear in the transmission and lowers resistance and therefore operating cost verses driving it until it breaks.
8. Do regular tune-ups. If you have platinum plugs this might be around 50K-100K miles but some people never do it until the car starts running poorly then they end up doing the coils or coil packs as well since the coils struggle when the spark gap widens with age.
9. Have your brakes bled every two years and inspected. Many millions of gallons of fuel is wasted every year on brakes that drag on the rotors or drums even if you don’t feel it. Most people don’t feel the problem until it is gone and then they feel the extra pep in their car when they step on the gas.
10. Use a tire that has engineering that promises a lower rolling resistance and better mileage.
11. Make sure you keep your alignments up as a car that pulls in one direction all of the time is creating resistance.
Good Luck!
1.when gas pump cuts off ,stop don’t overfill 2.slower acceleration at all times 3.when approaching stop signs or traffic lights take foot off accelerator, coast 4. use auto. cruise control when possible 5. drive 5 to ten mph slower than posted limits. 6.fill tank in early morn or late evening 7.don’t show off for friends. 8.park in shaded or cooler areas whenever possible.9.do factory recommended maintenance as prescribed 10.synthetic oil lasts longer, more expensive but i do 3x longer than factory recommended for better engine performance
