to mechanics and automotive experts – what are the pros and cons of a “lean” air to fuel ratio?
i bought a device that makes the air to fuel mixture “lean”. i installed it on my 2007 corolla. the car runs an average of 130 miles a day on regular Los Angeles traffic. (stop and go on rush hours and 70mph at night). i am testing out the device if it would save me fuel consumption but my concern is will it cause any damage? so far everything is running smoothly except for the “engine check light” being on. i assume that it is because the device is working and that the sensor picked up on the “abnormal” air to fuel ratio. please advice.
for specifications of the device, i bought it online at “onegassaver.com”

Comments on to mechanics and automotive experts – what are the pros and cons of a “lean” air to fuel ratio?
this is a delicate area of the engine, if the engine goes to lean you can cause serious damage to the engine, burn valves/ score pistons/ backfire through intake/ catalytic converter damage are just a few to be named…it might save you gas mileage going lean but in the long run youd wind up spending more in repairs to what can/might happen to your engine.. the risk is up to you
Leaner air burns hotter. In extreme cases this can lead to “pre-ignition.” This is when the fuel explodes before the spark plug fires.

First of all, it made your check engine light come on. Second, I really doubt it does anything much at all. I would get rid of it. The computer does the job of keeping the engine at the correct mixture and doesn’t need this.
a lean mixture, will give you better gas mileage and a short engine life due to high combustion chamber temperatures, along with increased emissions. get the cpu scanned to determine the trouble code. that light will come on for so many different reasons. that kind of heat can possibly damage valves along with several other critical parts.
Lean air-mixture will help you on fuel consumption lowering…
But lacking on combustion causing production of more Nitrous Oxide…
