The cost of gas / saving money?
Ok, so the price of gas isn’t going down anytime soon. And yes, we can all throw a snarky fit and send emails choosing a day to NOT purchase gas because, “That’ll show ‘em.” Been there, done that … doesn’t work.
So I’m trying alternate means of saving money, by signing up for grocery coupon sites and also signing up to different restaurants’ websites as they often send out coupons. I’ve also started shopping the Sunday circulars for best prices (even for things like toothpaste) and shopping at discounted stores (Marc’s and Aldi are two locally).
I’ve also got a few gas stations’ phone numbers in my cell and call them to compare prices before filling up.
What are some things you’re doing to save money other places, so you can spend a fortune at the gas pump?
** EDIT ** Another thing I do to save on miles driven is use my GPS to get from point A to B, even if I know where I’m going. I have it set to “fastest by car.” I don’t keep it on for turn by turn directions, but skim through them, and take that route! =)

Comments on The cost of gas / saving money?
Well i dont know how often you eat out, that could cut out some costs. my fiance is using his motorcycle more than his truck because it uses less gas. I used to get my nails done every 2 weeks but now i dont and that saves 40 a month.
I’ve always tried to make sure that I take care of errands in the same general area. So if I’m going to be in a certain area, I’ll bundle my activities. Been doing so long before gas prices went up, more for efficiency but it serves the same purpose. I do the same thing when going on vacation…other than that, I haven’t changed much.
* Our family has cut out eating out – too expensive – we can and do eat at home much cheaper.
* I haven’t had a haircut in a salon in a very long time and my son and husband cut their own hair at home (they’ve been doing that for a very long time – way before gas prices went through the roof).
* I have been buying groceries at the Dollar Store and making sure to use coupons whenever possible. I watch the grocery store weekly sales ads and stock up on things I know we’ll use a lot of. If I have coupons for an item that is on sale – even better!
* I bundle my errands/trips as someone else already mentioned and I don’t leave work on my lunch hour. I bring a lunch and stay put – that way I’m not burning up my gas running around at noon. I am amazed at how much that makes a difference!
* As hard as it’s been, I’ve really cut out any unnecessary spending such as clothes for myself, etc. I’m a clothes horse, so it’s tough, but I have to tell myself that I don’t NEED the item – I just WANT it.
* My husband and I are planning a trip to a near-by grocery store (15 minutes away) to buy some of their sales items – they have incredibly low prices on meat. Well worth the trip!!
By not buying Grand Theft Auto IV, I saved $60. Lately I’ve started biking and carpooling to close places.
Car pooling seems the most logical solution.
Getting back to basic family time, doing more at home.
Even with friends, the get together can be at home, with everyone chipping in for food and drinks. (Party on the Patio)
