The American Auto industry can be saved?
Unfortunately its fear of change will bring its quick demise.
Diesel fuel costs less to produce (refine) and diesel vehicles are more fuel efficient than gasoline vehicles. That is why in Europe it is difficult to find a gasoline vehicle. Only in the past year has the US began to offer diesel passenger vehicles.
Natural Gas is clean burning, inexpensive, and the US has an abundant supply of it. In Europe, natural gas powered hybrids and conversion kits have been readily available for the past 15 years. Only now is a natural gas powered vehicle available in the US and only by Honda!
If the American Automobile Industry is to survive, they will need to swallow their pride and begin making Diesel and Natural Gas powered passenger vehicles.
People in the US are crying about “Energy Independence” and “Going Green” but they fail to see what’s right in front of them!

Why is Saturn doing so well?
In most places there is no place to get CNG, LPG, or hydrogen for your car. Even E-85 pumps are few and far between. What the auto industry needs to do is swallow their pride and reduce the profit margin. The execs. are getting multi-million dollar bonuses and the people building the cars get the shaft when they don’t meet the projected sales goals.
What ‘tree hugger’ book are you getting your information from? North America has had diesel cars and trucks for decades.
The lack of “GREEN” vehicles is not the reason for their demise. It is their crappy products and their worthless warranties.
Diesel cars are Very common in Europe but so are gasoline cars. It is not difficult to find a gasoline vehicle at all.
The American auto industry has been caught out yet again by a fuel crisis, they never learn. The rubbish you manufacture – especially SUV’s is just squander. The great American public deserves better manufacturer’s than they have I’m afraid.
You must now use your superb talent for innovation and create a new power source and put the oil rich nations out of business.
