I drive a 96 toyota rav4, and on the gearshift there’s a button that turns off O/D, which means overdrive, i’m guessing when it’s off, this saves gas?

It seems like it’s only in the past several years that I see regular, big commercial jets with their wingtips turned up. Is that for aerodynamics, a fuel-saving move or what? How come I don’t remember seeing that on planes say, oh, 10 or more years ago?

I have a vehicle that defaults to Overdrive turned ON, but I would like to know if turning Overdrive off will save me gasoline when driving to and from work in a cityscape.

I would only do it at a really long light. So if there are red lights on your commute that you know are always long, and you get there as it turns red, it would probably make sense to turn off the engine.
If you turn off your engine at EVERY light you might wear out your starter or something.
