Windows, air conditioning – who cares?
There’s the old saw that leaving your windows rolled down creates an aerodynamic drag on your car, cutting down on fuel efficiency. And there’s the notion that the fastest way to drain your gas tank is by running your air conditioning.
Don’t believe either one.
In two separate studies conducted in 2005, the automotive Web site Edmunds.com and Consumer Reports compared the fuel economy of both a sedan and an SUV at highway speeds with and without air conditioning and how open windows affected gas usage.

I have an ipass and if i take the tollways i can get there in 40 minutes, but obviously ive heard that when you drive over 55 mph, you burn more fuel, if i take the backroads it takes me an hour, however there are a lot of traffic lights along these roads but i will never go above 50 mph…..which is better for saving on fuel? thanks for any advice

I have no fuel? I have been consulting my Chilton’s book and it says no fuel, check fuel pump. How do you check a fuel pump? I have an older car with a carburetor, it has the fuel pump that attaches to the head. I don’t believe it has a fuel pump relay. So do I just replace the pump? My car is a toyota tercel 3AC motor and when she’s running she purrs and saves me gobs on gasoline. I need some help here. Thanks in advance!

With the gas prices at insane prices, I am trying to be as frugal as I can. There have been several times where there is a long distance coming up to a stop light. I take my foot off the gas, and just coast to the red light. Sometimes, I actually have to stop. This leads to my question:
Is it okay to down-shift my car, even though it has an AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION?
It would slow the car a little better, rather than just coast in. I used to do it all the time with the truck I had, and it worked out great. Does anyone out there know if this is okay for my car? I refuse to try it until I know I won’t kill my transmission. Thanks!

tarriffs. the less we use the more we pay, there seem to be no incentive for us to cut our use down. why dont the government cap these greedy leaches. i wont bother anymore.what say you ppl.

I am trying to see if anyone knows by using regular 87 or plus 89 gas makes a difference? I would also like to know some tips for saving money on gas. I am getting gas once a week which I think is a bit much. I keep my oil changed when it is due and just wanted some additional tips on cutting down on the gas. Thanks!
