I heard something along the lines that if you drive slower, you don’t use as much gas. But wouldn’t it use more gas since it takes you longer to get to your destination?

I have a ’96 Toyota Corolla, and it gets good gas mileage anyways, but I’m looking for any way to save gas with it being near four dollars a gallon (INSANE, but anyways..), I hear that if you use your lower gears while driving in the city and save the overdrive for highway, you can save even more gas. Is this true?

i really dont know coz i saw this mechanic talking about a turbo charger on youtube and all of a sudden he said that we can save fuel if we are not using the turbo… of course i know that when we drive like Micheal Schumacher gone wild on the road then we’re gona empty the tank in a matter of hours… but what if we drive like normal all the time? lets just say that i set the turbo charger to work at 2000 RPM and higher… coz i dont drive more than 4000 RPM and its very stressful for the 1000cc engine of my car… so what do you think? if i hear some god news, i might install a turbocharger and save all the extra hard work. i just want a little more power from my boring car yet not using too much fuel…

I used to think it did. Then I heard that you actually save more fuel when going downhill, if you leave your car in gear and just take your foot off the petrol pedal. (Instead of taking it out of gear and pushing down the clutch) So which one is true, and why? How does it work?
DJ, honestly I don’t know what you’re on about. The oil spill is even more reason to try and save fuel where ever possible.
