So far this is what I’ve been doing..
1. I’ve been using the Sunday newspaper coupons and buying things that are only absolutely necessary.
2. I plan out the day beforehand so I don’t have to waste any gas.
3.I wash my car instead of taking it to the car wash.
4.I don’t eat out as much as I used to and cook more often.
I need some more ideas on how to save money. I don’t want any advice on investing. Thank you!

it would seem i spend a lot on gasoline on my 2011 Camry. I have to get gas maybe once every 3 days. I heard that if you short shift it will save a tiny bit of gas. I don’t know if this is true, but my friend says it has to do with the way I drive, I constantly make the engine roar when i speed up after stopping
How much do you spend on gas?

I drive a Honda Odyssey. I coast to stop lights. I use my brakes intermittently so as not to get them hot. Therefore they last much longer. I always keep tachometer at 2000 when starting off at go light so as to conserve gas. (This causes slow acceleration.) I never drive over 65 anywhere unless it would be an emergency. I coast down hills when possible. The people who hate me are the one rushing up to stop lights and jamming on their brakes, then take off like a bat out of hell. I don’t worry about the dirty looks or fingers I get. I SAVE MONEY.

Every day there are things that YOU can do to minimize how much money you spend on fuel.
Instead of complaining about fuel prices & seeking the ‘magic wand’ to make the price per gallon less, lets see how many ideas (big & little ) WE can come up with to reduce OUR out of pocket costs.
I have already REDUCED the amount of money I spend on fuel by more than half , even though I pay more per gallon at the pump.
It’s not all that hard to do!
Here’s a few ideas to get you started:
I do 95% of my shopping either on the way to or from work.
I also often call my neighbor before leaving work to see if there’s anything she needs at the store that I can pick-up for her.
I used to go out for the local Sunday paper. Now I have it delivered.
I save trips to the bank, with automatic payroll deposit & local ATM
I drive a Hybrid
I’ve altered my driving habits & routes to conserve
These are just a few ideas, that, when combined with others, can save YOU $
Whats UR IDEA?
ONLY 10 ANSWERS ? In 24 hours?
C’mon I know you all can do better than that!!!!

Would you spend an extra $4,800 MORE for a car, just to save $3,230 in fuel costs over 10 years ???
Let me explain: a Canadian 2010 Golf 3-door 2.5L = $22,940 MSRP
While a Canadian 2010 Volkswagen Golf 2.0 TDI clean Diesel = $27,740 MSRP ($4,800 MORE)
( both cars ordered with Automatic transmissions ).
The Gasoline powered car will get 23 city, 30 hwy, 26 combined, and based on 45% hwy driving, 55% city driving, 15,000 miles/year and $2.79 per gallon for regular, and $2.92 per gallon for diesel, the Gas car will cost $1,611 per year while the diesel will cost $1,288 per year, a savings of $3,230 over 10 years.
So is it worth spending an extra $4,800 MORE for a car, just to save $3,230 in fuel costs over 10 years ???
If you’re an American, you can get a huge $1,700 credit (or more) from the government for buying a diesel car, but here in Canada we don’t have anything like that, maybe $50 or $200, but almost nothing.
