I’ve always wondered this when I’m stuck in traffic. If I anticipate sitting there for two more minutes (or how ever many minutes), do I save more gas by shutting off the car and restarting it when it’s time to move, or just keeping the car idle?

I filled up with it once feeling good about my descicion. The lady at the station said that an average American using only unleaded biofuel would save a barrel and a half of oil per year, but it seemed like I may not have had as good of gas mileage, which means I’d have to fill up more often, counteracting the saving of oil. Can anyone give me any information on this?

I’ve heard in the news that some airline operators have instructed their pilots to fly their planes slower to conserve fuel, so I wonder what has speed got to do with fuel usage.
I’ve heard in the news that some airline operators have instructed their pilots to fly their planes slower to conserve fuel, so I wonder what has speed got to do with fuel usage.
Because for example, if a driver reaches a place 10kms away from start in 15mins on fast speed and if another reaches the same distance in 30mins on slow speed, then won’t the slow driver spend as much fuel as the faster driver as he drove for a longer period of time to the same distance as him?
Isn’t FAST SPEED & LESS TIME equal the same amount of fuel usage compared to SLOW SPEED & MORE TIME?
Please explain in detail as I’m confused.
Thanks.

I have a 1994 Honda Accord with 170K miles that gets 22 MPG city and 31 Highway. What incentive does buying a new one have on saving gas?
Why do I need a faster car? This one costs less than 2000 a year in repairs. a new car payment plus full insurance is nearly $6000 a year at 380 a month and 1500 insurance. I have power everything except remote trunk opener. I dont need an alarm anymore and, except for faded paint, its still in excellent condition.

Why when we have a drought, everyone tells us the conserver water ( I understand that part), when we do and the drought is over the water company says we conserved to good and now they have to raise the water rates up because we did a job at coervering, do you think the gas companies are doing the same thing, so even if the price of oil goes down, they can cry we conserver to good so they can keep the high prices?
