With the (up to) 10% ethynol in our gas I went from 16.5 to 15.5 mile per gallon. I average about 15.5 gallons per fill up. With this loss (only 1 mile per gallon) at $3.00 per gallon, I lose about $2.79 or 0.93 gallons per fill up. Looking at it another way I could say I am paying $3.18 per gallon.
So is this helping us or not?
I stand corrected on my spelling. It is indeed Ethanol. Thanks for catching my error.

I was thinking about ways to lower my car’s fuel consumption and I came across these “performance chips” that would increase horse power AND lower fuel consumption. They only cost about 10-20 bucks. Do they really works or they are fake?

Most of them claim that they will save fuel, lower exhaust emmissions, clean engine and increase performance. But are they really good? If thery are so good why big oil companies do not put them in the fuels they sell to public?

This product claims a significant gas savings. You put it in your air intake between the air filter and the fuel injectors. I would like to find if someone has used it and what their experience has been.

Get your car a tune-up…that’s the quickest and easiest way. Make sure everything is in working order. Make sure your oil is good, and make sure things like your air, oil and fuel filters are clear of any garbage. Check your tire pressures, and fill them to recommended levels. Even though it’s minimal, try and save yourself from using your A/C too much. The effect of turning that off (there’s a clutch that engages, and takes power from the engine to turn the air compressor) might be negated by the lost aerodynamics of opening all of your windows though…I wonder if anyone ever studied that? You should also turn the A/C off before you turn yuor car off as well…it’s just one extra thing for the starter to spin when you start the car up again.
The best thing is to try not to be a lead foot. Don’t smash the gas petal at greeen lights, don’t speed like a mad-man, etc.
Finally…ignore anything that claims to give you better gas mileage, i.e. fuel treatment, high-flow air filters, that “Tornado” thing…if they worked, the manufacturers would’ve installed them themselves.

It’s true biodiesel may not be a solution, but it’s a step in the right direction. Biodiesel pollutes less, can be made from used cooking oil, and diesel cars need little to no conversion to run on biodiesel. Hybrids are a better alternative, but they are very expensive, biodiesel is a cheaper solution. Look below for more info.
