if your turn your car of when its still moving and still in drive, so that when you are about to reach your destination you no longer have the engine on. Would this save any gas in the long run?
and would this damage the engine in any way?

I make the same route to my duties every day. On this route is the cheapest gas station (literally right off the street on my way, so I travel less than 1/50th of a mile to have to pull into the gas station from my route, fill up, and then get back on my route. My question is, with my choise gas station being so close to my route, would it be more efficient to only do $5-$10 at a time so that there is less gas weight in the car, would that translate to more fuel efficiency? Or would topping it off every time save more gas? Any explanation would be appreciated.

I have been using the Tri-Rail for almost two years. They just announced their “Go Green and Save” Campaign. I found it because it offers a giveaway if you register.. a free year transit pass. I heard Tri-Rail uses Biodiesel fuel (since 2008) and was wondering why that was a better solution? Any thoughts?

If you’re running really low on gas, and i’m talking about very very close to Empty, should you put your car in park at red lights to save whatever gas is left? OR, do you just push the breaks like you normally would?

Could the 2 screens on the fuel pump just be clooged and the fuel pump ok? trying to save the $200 + for the cost of the pump. Since I have the tank dropped and the pump out, changing the 2 screens/filters should be easy. Any easy way to test the fuel pressure to see if the screens/filters were the problem?
We haven’t run out of fuel, but thanks for that suggestion. I admit I was just getting ceap with the filter(s) changing thought and will just go ahead and replace the pump and filters. The line fuel filter was replaces 2 days ago, but the engine wout idle, will drive and if I kepp the rpm’s up I can stop it without the engine dying. No engine check light on, but there is this red lighted icon on the lower left of the dash that I believe indicates a fuel system problem. Any idea what the pressure is supposed to be? (Think I heard the min. is 60 psi)

I have a 2001 Lexus IS300 stock. It is a 3.0 liter tiptronic (automatic and manual) with a V6 VVTi engine. My fuel economy is 18 city and 23 highway. Which saves me more gas, driving in manual or driving in automatic? And what are some ways to save me gas in general such as a cold air intake/lighter tires/dropping metal? Thanks!

I’m planning on purchasing a Nissan Maxima (2006) and I’m hearing that with gas around $4 a gallon, this is a stupid decision? I’m a V6 enthusiast but at the same time, I do care about saving gas… Am I really making a bad decision here by purchasing this car? I commute from home to school as a student and commute back to work and then back home and my average mileage running per day is a total of 20miles.

I heard of ways of saving money even while gas prices are through the roof. I’m looking for ideas of how you save(i.e. habits that you may have) to be more fuel efficient. I’m well aware things like supermarkets that offer price discounts. I’m looking for answers that are not obvious like “drive less”.

here is the actual question couldn’t fit in the upper box- A person starts a car and begins driving on the highway. They misjudged their gas level and run out of fuel while driving. Of course, the car slows to a stop. Describe how energy is conserved in this situation.
