and then let it free wheel down to 70 MPH,and again accelerating to 80 MPH, and free wheel down again to 70 MPH, and so on indefinitely for a long distance. Considering that it will take barely 3 second accelerating from 70 to 80 MPH but a whooping 12 seconds to free wheel from 80 to 70 MPH, logic tells me that I should save a great amount of fuel, considering that say on a 100 miles stint I will be using my engine power for only 25 miles, while hypothetically could drive the remaining 75 miles with a dead engine free wheeling. Can anyone out there mathematically answer me please ? Please refrain from giving me personal opinions for i have a big bet on this, so i need facts, or it will cost me a big dinner for 6 in a fancy restaurant, and probably will take my entire pay check away.

im looking into getting a power proggramer or anything like that for my 2000 malibu i want it so i can modify it at anytime depending on if i wanna go faster or conserve some gas it is the 3.1l and it has a ram intake and exhaust currently on it so im wondering what would be a good one that can take advantage of those two mods

a block of wood under the gas pedal to allow it only to go down so far…thats the best fuel saving device.
that being said, what kawasaki said is the best answer…proper maintenance and driving the speed limit without jackrabbit stops/starts will help.
