On the government website it says to use over drive gears to help save on fuel economy. I have a 94 cutlass supreme. On the shifter it has P R N D 3 2 1,
I’m am assuming the “3 2 1″ is my overdrive. How do I use this and when would it be appropriate to select one of these while driving. Under what circumstances should I use 3, 2, 1?
Any help would be great. I don’t get the best MPG in this car, but buying a new car is out of the question. So even if I just improve fuel economy a little bit, I can start to save up for a newer car.
This particular Cutlass Supreme has the 3.4l DOHC. I currently get around an average of 20mpg.

I drive a 1989 Toyota Camry v6 4Speed Automatic,
I want to use the overdrive button to the benefit of my fuel efficiency (saving gas)
1) Do I leave it on Overdrive all the time?
2) What about driving in the city (stop and go traffic)?
3) When do I turn Overdrive off? (When I stop completely? or can i turn it off while the car is moving?)
4) When do I turn Overdrive on? (Do I wait till i hit the 40mph mark, and shift to overdrive from my D (3rd gear)? Or can i simply start w/ Overdrive at 0mph (acceleration is slow though)?

i read somewhere that if you use overdrive, you save gas. whats overdrive? how does it save gas? when should i use overdrive? at what speeds should i use it? are there any disadvantages for using overdrive?

i have a 1995 ford taraus. it has overdrive and i was told to put it in overdrive when on the freeway to save gas. is this true???

I was told that when you’re driving on the streets to have your overdrive turned on, and that will help to save on gas
