Gas has risen 3 times over the last week where I live, right now a regular unleaded gallon of gas will cost you 3.30! I live on a farm, so we use gas for more than our regular trucks, any suggestions on making it more bearable on my wallet until gas prices start to come down?

currently we spend about 20% of our annual salary on gas. we also combine trips and have slowed down to conserve. I don’t know just how much more our family can take.
Wow, it’s hard to pick a best answer, cause I feel for all of us. guess I’ll have to leave it up to the community. thanks for your answers!

i have a 91 honda accord with 178,000 miles
and its supposed to get 374/476 miles on a whole tank, but i find it really hard to get even 300 on one tank driving in the city
mostly, i don’t accelerate very hard to conserve gas
i know the car is old and that’s why the fuel economy is down, but what parts can i replace to help make it better?
tune up, oil change, air filter, and timing were all done recently

We’ve all heard of E85, 85% ethanol and 15% gasoline. Some states currently run E10, most recently California. Minnesota passed an E20 mandate but has yet to get the ok from the EPA. I’ve heard a person gets the best mileage with E30. If so, why not mandate E30 eventually? If I were to pump 20 total gallons into my fuel tank, 13 gal. gasoline & 7 gal. E85 to make E30, adjusting the equation in states currently blending ethanol, how would that effect my vehicle mileage, engine mechanics, and performance? Is the EPA testing for E20 and E30?

I’m talking about the heat to cool the engine. The heat generated by the exhaust and the brakes. If this heat was converted to electricity or fuel savings, how much electricty could be produced or fuel saved?

I’ve been asked if I use gas or oil
due to my questions relating to
Bush’s war for the oil…
I ride a bike or walk everywhere and
very RARELY use my car…
I need to go to town about once a month
to put in about 1/4 tank and spend about
$15 per month on gas…
I live in a very warm year round climate and
the heater is set to 60 degree’s and my gas heating
bill is about $20 per month.
How much do you spend on gas
and heating per month?
Do you conserve gas and oil like I do?

Make sure your tires have enough air, don’t drive too fast, don’t brake too hard, make sure your car is in good running condition, those are the most common sense things. Oh, DON’T USE AIR CONDITIONING, it’s a guzzler!

To conserve gas, I have begun turning off the engine while I idle at stop lights (there are many more techniques I am utilizing, known collectively as “hypermiling”). For every minute that your car idles, how much gas is wasted?

You don’t need to downshift when stopping. If you want to save fuel, keep your eyes on the road up ahead. Shift into neutral and just roll. When it’s time to brake, use the brakes.
When you downshift, you cause your RPM’s to shoot up. That means more fuel is being used. You only need to downshift when you need help stopping. Otherwise, it’s cheaper to replace your brakes than to replace transmission components.
