I don’t want a scooter either. I need something that is highway worthy.

I’m a high school senior and I will be purchasing a new car for graduation and I’m looking for something that will save me money. Of course my budget is limited, but I am interested in something fuel efficient. I was curious what cars were the best at fuel efficiency. It will be May-August 2012 before I buy it and I’m not looking to buying brand new. Somewhere from ’08-’11. What car choices are there? I considered a Honda Civic.

Say your family has two vehicles and you drive each 12K miles per year.
One is a huge SUV that averages 10 mpg and the other is a midsized sedan that averages 20 mpg.
You want to trade one of them to help save on family fuel costs.
Is it better to trade the SUV for another sedan that gets 20 mpg or to trade the sedan for a hybrid that gets 45 mpg?

When driving a manual car, what is the most efficient way of using the gas in terms of accelerating and shifting gears? I’ve been shifting barely over 2000rpms with real slow acceleration, would that be a good way to save gas?

I know driving under 70 (or something like that) saves about 25% of your fuel, adding things like an exhaust system. I’ve also heard that filling up in the morning or when it’s cold is better than in the afternoon or when the temperature is warmer. If you could please help me out and let me know a couple of ways I would really appreciate it.
