it very expensive to repair an engine, i was hoping maybe i can do it myself and save money, i have mechanical tools, the engine lift and guide to repair. But I was wonder if there another altenative to repair lifters, instead of paying so much money to repair it?
A Mercury Sable 95 with an 3.8 engine. Car started to knock when starting engine, it been like that for an week. Car had major tune up and oil change. Do this help for info?

Looking at SUVs and will consider a hybrid not so much to conserve but to save on gas.
I’ve heard that there’s danger regarding accidents-rescue workers can suffer shocks from the electric batteries, and that even an owner doing a bit of self maintenance is vulnerable. My husband does our brakes and changes the oil himself to save money—any comments or dispelling of myths?
I’m thinking (not TOO seriously) of the Mercury Mariner hybrid.
