I want to go green to save money & the environment but what’s the point if it’s going to cost me MORE money?
So is this true? Also, I’ll be living in Chicago where gas is higher than the National Average.
With gas prices well on their way past $4 per gallon, you’re probably cursing that thirsty SUV or turbocharged roadster in the driveway. But would purchasing a more fuel- efficient car actually be worth it? We’ve simplified things and done the math for you — but the answer is far from simple.
Because hybrids cost more than gasoline-powered models, it’s not necessarily cost- effective to buy one, even when taking into account the money you’ll save on gas. But, if fuel costs continue to rise, the gas savings will make up the price difference — right? And what about conventional gasoline-powered models…is it worth it to go for the smaller, fuel-efficient vehicle instead of the one you have your heart set on? Keep reading to find out.

Reduce my families carbon footprint (and saving a little money on gas wouldn’t hurt either) Heres the deal my dad Looked around and said It’s not worth it to buy a hybrid since the hybrids are generally more expensive then their regular gasoline counterparts. He also said that since it’s so much more it wouldn’t pay to get a hybrid since the gas payoff wouldn’t exceed the difference between the hybrid and the normal car until he had to return the car. Any ideas?

the roads are becoming congested again with people reverting to their old wasteful habits. You would think that after that last spike in prices, people would learn to conserve before the price goes up, but apparently not.

I’m just curious to know what the financial gains will be with the purchase of this car? Do you think the money you save on gasoline will be considerably more than the added cost to your electric bill?
Let me know what you think.

I have been trying out hypermiling so I try to use my brakes minimally including during turns so it’ll sometimes turn out that when I turn into a driveway I’ll get a good jostling probably contributed to by over-inflation of the tires. But either way I don’t want to be damaging my vehicle in the pursuit for a higher MPG. I’ll be going the speed limit when going over train tracks (25-35mph) and about 10-15 when pulling into rather shallow driveways. Any advice?

Thank you Michael S. In fact, my father tended to run his tires under the recommended inflation pressure so there is excess wear on the outsides which works in my favor as all I’m doing is balancing it.
James F i don’t mean to make you feel like a dumbass but read the above edit.
Theneels, if you took a look at this car you’d change your mind. But I agree with you regardless. This thing isn’t worth much despite being a head turner.

For example, when you are going downhill, you put your car in neutral so you won’t have to press the throttle, do you actually save fuel or it doesn’t make any difference at all?

Wow – “President Obama”? You must be seeing into the future! Actually, I did an end run around that whole gasoline thing and bought cars that run on natural gas instead. 87 cents a gallon here in Utah, and cleaner for the environment, too. So, no, I don’t drive any less, technically, but I don’t buy gasoline, either, so it doesn’t really matter in that respect…
