would it save more to go less? like 55 mph? I’m moving 1,000 miles in less than a week and want to know how I can save money on gas.
I have a 17 foot rental truck, a car carrier being towed behind it, and one car being driven on the road. What’s the best way for both vehicles to save gas?

I was wondering. Let’s compare 2 different cars. A high mpg 4 cylinder compact vs a larger, somewhat thirstier 6 cylinder car. For the smaller compact, you gotta pedal to the metal to get up a hill. It takes much less effort for the larger engined car to achieve the same thing. I was wondering how the gas mileage would compare between the 2 cars in this situation…

A few days ago I posed a question about the Gov being responsible for not only rising fuel costs but also asking if people think they should be behind the technology drive in finding alternatives to petrol. Interesting discussion and some good answers although some tend to go on the defensive anytime you mention the word Gov.
Anyway, I want to know when the buiness sector (mainly the car manfactures) are going to speed up this process of finding and dedicating alternative cars. Yes there are hybrids and so forth out there but there are no real savings. The price of a hybrid is such that I would not see any savings on fuel vs. extra cost of the car for many years down the road.
Is anyone working on something else? Hybrids are great, but lets be honest, I can’t see spending an extra 5 to 7 thousand dollars on a car that is going to save me a few pennies at the pump. Lets develop cars that don’t run on gas at all. How about that?

Admittedly, I am not a fan of auto racing, but still it seems to me that it’s not a good example to have these events with their displays of wastefulness of fossil fuels when the rest of us are expected to conserve gas and energy.
