I drive a 1986 Lincoln Town Car. I’ve had lots of work done on it such as tune ups, brake work, engine work etc. As you already know I do not have a lot of money to waste especially not on gas. I have no idea how many miles my vehicle gets to the gallon. How would I find out that information. Finally with the continously rising gas prices in full swing what are some things that I can do to save gas. THANKS!!

You don’t need to downshift when stopping. If you want to save fuel, keep your eyes on the road up ahead. Shift into neutral and just roll. When it’s time to brake, use the brakes.
When you downshift, you cause your RPM’s to shoot up. That means more fuel is being used. You only need to downshift when you need help stopping. Otherwise, it’s cheaper to replace your brakes than to replace transmission components.
