Do you ever think about power saving besides high gas prices so you don’t dump all your money into energy?

By that I mean a car that gets very very good gas mileage and one that can burn multiple fuel types. It would be great cuz when the alternative fuels are more readily available I could save $$$ by using the bio diesel, ethanol 85, hydrogen, etc. If they haven’t made one yet why not? And can we ever get the oil companies to stop buying out these great inventions only cuz it threatens their lifestyles and cash income? Just asking.

I was on an MD-80 flight into Seattle, sitting by the right engine, and during descent I noticed that the fan blade was not spinning at all. Even when I heard the power increase, the blade did not spin.
After landing, when we taxi’d, it sounded like the left engine/side of the plane was louder than the right.
Nothing else about the descent or taxi seemed unusual.
At the gate, I asked the pilots if they shut down an engine on descent. The copilot said, “No. We idled them back but we didn’t shut one down.”
But at idle setting wouldn’t the fan still spin or at least windmill?
I’m not too familiar with the older turbofans.

If you are driving on a fast highway and go right behind a truck you can save gas because there is less wind resistance so your car doesn’t have to work as hard, have you ever done that?

I don’t feel comfortable talking the Prius on long trips. We find the front seats cramped and uncomfortable and for long distance driving, I am not sure we would save that much on gas.
Also, have you driven to the point where the electric energy bars have been depleted and the gasoline engine takes over?
After we bought our car, on the Sierra-Nevada mountain uphill grade driving from San Francisco to Reno, the bars were almost depleted and the last remaining turned purple. What a fright — we turned off our air conditioner, opened the windows and managed to get over the mountains before the bars all disappeared from the display panel. Later the dealership did have us bring the car in and they checked and adjust the computer controls and I was assured the car would not stall.
