I have a 1997 Dodge ram 1500 4X4 that is getting around 6 mpg. It has high mileage (around 215,000) and I understand that is part of the problem. I have a K&N intake system and a throttle body spacer, and true dual exhaust. Plus worn down mud terrain tires, which also dont help, but 6 miles to the gallon is still way low. I cleaned the filter, put new spark plugs in, but still am not getting very good gas mileage. Please tell me any ideas you have to improve my MPG’s. Please Don’t tell me that I need to drive more economical because I do, its still getting horrible gas mileage. I’m looking for Fuel saving parts, (reasonable price) tips, things I can clean, pretty much anything. PLEASE HELP

Our car was in the shop for repairs because it would crank but not start. The shop could not fix it. They said it was a computer problem and would have to be taken to a dealer for repairs. The dealer said it was the crankshaft position sensor, and that when they change it they have to change the sparkplugs at the same time. This would be $348.72 for the sensor and $149.95 for the plugs that includes a motor tuneup. Then, they said the belts have cracks, which would be $199.00, and a fuel system tuneup for $89.00.
My husband usually does work on our car, but he has been working alot of overtime, and doesn’t have all the spare time to work on it. He would rather do without the charge for the belts and do them himself, but hasn’t done that to an intrepid before. Does anyone know how hard it would be to replace the belts, to save us on the car repair bill?

I recently installed an air intake in my charger. Ive noticed that it has also been wasting more gas for some reason. Why is it? People tell me i need to straight pipe it from the catback all the way to the back to get the full benefits of a better breathing system AND to improve gas mileage. Im almost thinking of going back to stock to save on gas again…can someone tell me what i need to do? Everything is placed where it should be like the sensor and hose from the intake to the engine.
