Which major automaker will be the first to conceive and then build a car that could save the planet?
It could be built right now:
Its frame and body would be made of carbon-fibre (5 times lighter and stronger than steel; therefore also safer) its engine would be a flex-fuel (gasoline/ethanol) hybrid with plug-in (household recharge) capability and a much larger battery than any hybrids have today and it would incorporate solar cells across its horizontal surfaces to allow battery-recharging whenever/wherever it was parked in the sun.
Such a car would allow commuters to cover over 100-miles, round-trip, every day on its batteries alone, generating absolutely no greenhouse gasses in the process, thus saving the planet once everyone had one.
All we’d need to inspire the American public to buy them en masse is: 1) For the Iranians to make good on their threat to shut-off the oil spigot when we hit them, 2) For oil prices to reach $100/barrel for several months as a result, and 3) For the US government to strongly-incentivize the program.
My guess? A Japanese or Chinese firm.

I am a full time college student, living off of campus & commuting about 35-40 min to school everyday. Someone told me that I should be saving my gas receipts to use on my taxes when I fill out the student information, is this correct??
