Conserving

With the price of gas at an all time high, how many people have started cycling, walking or car pooling to work? Are employers accommodating you? Can you shower/freshen up at work?
In 1979 gas crisis people started doing that to prevent a war, too bad the it seems that conservation is a taboo word.

High gas (and diesel) prices are the only thing that gets most Americans to stop wasting fossil fuels. This has been shown time and again in buying surveys, with V8 SUV sales picking up after a temporary lull in gas prices. Voluntary conservation seems to be perceived as a sign of economic weakness by the average bling-chaser.

There seems to be little serious awareness among Americans of Peak Oil concepts, or that oil peaked in the U.S. back around 1970 (including Alaska as a subset of total reserves).

Most people just seem to fixate on current pump prices, as if no other factors are in play except the moment. They get indignant when asked to conserve voluntarily, as if some birthright is being challenged. Is this a true assessment?

During the gas crunch a lot of us were conserving gas.
Are you still, and if so how are you still doing it? I am still staying home more and trying to do all my errands at once. Everything as before.

I’m not ‘car-saavy’, lol. The only thing I know that conserves gas in my car is to not run the AC… And the only time I actually do run the AC is when my son is in the car with me, because I don’t want him to get too hot.
Is there anything else I can do to conserve gas in my car? I live 40 minutes away from my job, so it’s not like I can walk to work or anything.
Thanks!
