Product Description
There is such a big deal about going green! How exactly can it help save the environment if we start using alternative fuel? The fact is that by using alternative fuel we can greatly reduce the impact of harmful exhaust emissions to the atmosphere. In so doing, we lessen the effects of climate change and its threat of havoc upon our planet. That is perhaps the number one benefit of using alternative fuel instead of the more commonly used petroleum fuel. Alternative fuels are manufactured domestically. Some widely-used forms are biodiesel, natural gas, ethanol, propane, hydrogen, coal, and also renewable sources such as solar and wind energy. The United States alone is responsible for 27% of harmful exhaust emissions such as carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, sulfur and more, all of which cause damage to the earth by means of its heat-trapping effect. Alternative fuels burn cleaner by more than 90% as compared to regular petroleum… More >>

Our governor just declared a state of emergency for the state of New Mexico. The cause is a supply shortage of natural gas. They also asked us to turn off all non-essential appliances, and to turn our thermostats down by 10 degrees. Apparently there is an electricity shortage too.
They are shutting down all the public schools, universities, and most state buildings tomorrow in an effort to conserve gas.
I turned down my central gas heater to 60, but I’ve got an electric space heater that I’m using to keep my bedroom warm (a toasty 64F). Yeah, I’ve also got my laptop on…
What if the world hits a supply disruption like this? Many things could trigger a shortage in gasoline or natural gas. How would people react?
Hopefully this resolves itself by the end of the weekend.

I just bought a Poulan fixed-string weed trimmer (gas powered). During the course of trimming my normal-sized yard along both sides of a fence, and edging my driveway and sidewalk, I went through 4-5 pieces of line. Being a fixed-string, I have to pop the head off and re-thread each time. Does this sound normal as far as consumption goes, or do I need to work on my technique?

So far this is what I’ve been doing..
1. I’ve been using the Sunday newspaper coupons and buying things that are only absolutely necessary.
2. I plan out the day beforehand so I don’t have to waste any gas.
3.I wash my car instead of taking it to the car wash.
4.I don’t eat out as much as I used to and cook more often.
I need some more ideas on how to save money. I don’t want any advice on investing. Thank you!

Any merchant of a finite commodity eventually has to start limiting the availability of that commodity (in this case the choice of a limiting tool is the price available to consumers) this is done for the sake of profit, as selling that commodity out too quickly will result in no longer having a market. Oil companies aren’t using all of their available drilling opportunities and prices are rising in spite of increasing reserves. Has anyone considered the possibility that we are now at a period where the oil market is shifting and large oil companies may start to promote energy efficiency, as it’s not really dollars per gallon that’s the most important factor as miles per dollar that’s most important.
What if this is a message from big oil that they are changing their business plan and we should all start to conserve?
Dave – you are correct. Prices are going up right now in spite of increasing reserves and a decrease in demand. Oil companies have significant spare capacity at the moment but have chosen not to exercise that capacity.
Apparently conservatives think the word “finite” means “people can get more if you tell them they can”

My Harley gets better gas mileage than any car that I know of, and in the winter months, I drive a fuel efficient vehicle to work. What are you doing to conserve?

global warming?
I am not accusing Democrats, or Republicans for bing the cause. But even if they didn’t cause it, they could be happy about it.
