when driving down hill, some times there is enough slope to give you the speed u need without a need to use the acclerator.
So my point is, during downhill, do i Save fuel if i hold the clutch and drive or is it good if i just leave the clutch and glide without pressing the accelerator too. (the engine is running its not off).
brainy people answer.lol
thanks

When I am driving if car is for example in 4th gear and speed is 80km/h and then I press down the clutch completely and release the accelater and let the car go with momentum for 3-4 hundred meters until speed drops to 70 or sth like that and then press the gas again until speed is back to 80 and continue in this way, am i saving fuel? Please explain it. Is it the more efficient way or just releasing the gas pedal is more efficient. My car is not a new car it is 96 model.

i read somewhere
“It’s a common misconception that this saves fuel, but actually modern engines don’t consume fuel when coasting in gear”
is that statement even true?
isn’t it bad when no fuel is going to the engine and the pistons are going up and down?

I do it all the time to keep my RPM low when I’m getting close to a red light. Is this bad for the clutch, and does this even help save fuel? If it does hurt the clutch, do the benefits outweigh the bad stuff?
