Please no “don’t do that, it’s dangerous, that’s stupid” answers. I’m asking because I’m curious, not because I plan to do it.

If you are driving on a fast highway and go right behind a truck you can save gas because there is less wind resistance so your car doesn’t have to work as hard, have you ever done that?

Not that I would do this, because it is not safe. But I was curious. What’s the distance at 60MPH? at 70MPH? Behind a truck? behind a van? behind a sedan? And how much gas would one save?

I know that one must maintain a safe distance b/w your car and the car in front. But while driving on the highway the other day, I wondered if it would help with the gas milage if I decrease the distance between my car and the car in front or if I drive behind a big truck. Would doing so help my car by reducing drag or would it not have much of an affect? What are your thoughts on this matter???
