YES- Hypermiling is crap- they mention you should coast to a stop sign and be easy on the gas peddle, if you look at it that is how you really should drive so they arent telling you anything new. When they start to tell you to over inflate your tires and not to use the brake around turns- that will indeed save a few pennies but your going to put it back in buying new tires sooner. You can’t get something for nothing!!! The other idiotic thing about that guy praising this “hypermiling” is it shows him in a video driving his car with all these tricks like shutting it off and putting it in neutral- the silly thing is he is in an automatic which normally uses more gas than a manual to begin with- if he was really so smart he would have bought and learned how to drive a manual transmission. in other words that guy in the video teaching everyone how to “hypermile” is a complete idiot.

I am old, but hypermiling is not a made up expression. If you recall, we had Mopar. You’d don’t know fast until you’ve driven a Chrysler 300H with 2, 4-Barrel Carbs at over 100 MPH with 6 cracks in the block and with almost non existant rings. Immagine what is is like when the engine is not in need of repair. A whole caravan of them sounded like rolling thunder in western Virginia it was a rush.
Now on to hypermiling. The optimal speed on the highway for me is 50 mph. It helps to crawl uphill and coast downhill. After the running start downhill the crawl up the next hill is much faster and more efficient. I drive a hybrid and normally get 43 mpg. With hypermiling I get about 54 mpg.
If you do not believe it is true, follow and mimick a hybrid civic at a distance where they do not feel pushed to speed up. Check your mileage before you do this and after you do this. I love hybrids because it is like playing a video game while you are driving to see how high you can get the mpg’s. The guage on the dash indicate current mpg’s at all times and the overall average mpg’s continually re-calculate. It’s a rush to watch the dash and That is why we hypermile.

Wonder can’t drive 55.
Or 65.
Or 75.
Drive it like you stole a ’69 Mustang convertible, and you are on your way to visit your dear old sick Granny Matilda who is on her death-bed and her only last wish is to have you feed her jelly donuts by hand in a Craft-matic adjustible bed.

Hahahahaha
I saw that on Yahoo earlier and looked it up, it seems very difficult to figure out exactly what to do and each car is different…
Just freakin buy gas and drive. ***** about it afterward, I say.

Ugh. Prius talk.
Hypermiling is code word for “MPG snob.”
